The updated Honda NX500 with the brand’s cutting-edge E-Clutch technology has been officially introduced by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) in India for a starting price of Rs 7.44 lakh. With this update, Honda aims to make its middleweight adventure tourer more accessible and rider-friendly, particularly for urban commuting and long-distance touring. Honda’s BigWing dealerships all over the country are now accepting reservations for the motorcycle
What Is Honda E-Clutch?
Honda’s own E-Clutch system, which was developed to simplify riding without compromising rider engagement, is the new NX500’s most notable feature. Unlike a fully automatic transmission, the E-Clutch allows riders to shift gears manually using the foot lever while the motorcycle electronically controls clutch engagement during starts, stops, and gear changes. This means riders no longer need to constantly operate the clutch lever in traffic or on long rides.
Interestingly, Honda has retained the conventional clutch lever, allowing riders to switch back to manual clutch operation whenever they prefer. While maintaining the feel of a conventional gearbox, this arrangement provides the convenience of automation. No Mechanical Changes Underneath
Apart from the addition of E-Clutch technology, the Honda NX500 remains mechanically unchanged. The bike continues to draw power from the familiar 471cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine, producing around 47 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
The adventure motorcycle is still constructed with a steel diamond frame suspended by upside-down Showa SFF-BP front forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock to provide comfort on a variety of terrains. Dual front discs and a rear disc setup, supported by dual-channel ABS, perform braking duties. Features and Equipment
Honda has carried forward the NX500’s feature-rich package, which includes:
- 5-inch TFT instrument cluster
- Honda RoadSync smartphone connectivity
- Turn-by-turn navigation
- Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)
- Full LED lighting setup
- Tall windscreen and knuckle guards
- The bike rides on a 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel combination, balancing highway touring and mild off-road capability.
The price of the E-Clutch technology upgrade is high. The new NX500 E-Clutch variant costs roughly Rs 1.1 lakh more than the standard manual-clutch version, reflecting the added electronic hardware and convenience-focused technology.
With this launch, Honda strengthens its presence in the premium ADV motorcycle segment, where the NX500 competes against rivals like the BMW F 450 GS and other mid-capacity adventure tourers in India.
